What’s your reasoning for having different editions of the same book/series?

Why do you choose one book/series over the other books you have?

How much are you willing to spend on editions?

I’ve recently watched a lot of tik toks of people showing their different editions of their favorite books/series and I got curious.

    Tolkien.

I have three copies of LoTR, one was the first version I read and the Return of the King is falling apart and while I don’t think they are anything fancy I have also rarely seen other copies of the same edition as it.

So I went out to buy new copies to become my reading copies and instead bought them and an illustrated edition too. I don’t play to ever read the illustrated editions in the hope they might become worth something.

Then the most ashamed multiple copy book is Roverandom. I got a copy when I was a wee lad and then a few years back I saw it for sale at Big W and it was such a wee cute book that I impulse bought it.

There are probably a few others that I have accidentally bought dupes of because I have had to put all of my books in my wardrobe so I can’t really see them.

Oh and Winter Warriors by David Gemmell. I have the copy my ex wife bought me when we were still in highschool and is the only actual display of love from her I have kept because it is my favourite book. But I first read it in tradeback form so when I found one for $3 I bought it for nostalgia’s sake. I just need someone who smokes winnie blues to read it for me so it will smell like my brother’s copy too.
