While Art says it a little too bluntly for my taste later in the episode, I really like how this scene shows how strong Debbie truly is

Both Nolan and Debbie are at the lowest points of their life, and contemplating suicide. The difference being Nolan was ACTUALLY going to do it, the only reason he didn’t was because an outside influence gave him a purpose again.

Debbie, on her own, decided to push on with life. Nolan may be powerful, but Debbie was the strong one in the relationship.

Debbie is literally a Chad. She didn’t deserve any of this. Strongest character in this entire series.

Don’t get me wrong, just because it was too blunt for me doesn’t mean it wasn’t a great scene. When someone is as depressed as Debbie, you should 100% be as encouraging as Art was. Art NEEDED to be blunt in that scene, it’s why he actually got through to Debbie. He spelled out exactly why Debbie shouldn’t be so hard on herself, because Debbie needed to hear it.

and this reinforces why nolan still continued to kill the guardians at the start even though WE know 100% that he cared about all of them, mark, debbie, and art too

and because of his emotional/mental weakness, he was still susceptible to the Viltrumite culture.

hell he was weak enough to be susceptible to Earth Culture in the first place.

This episode proved to me that all it takes for me to start liking a genocidal psychopath is a moody montage with great music and beautiful cinematography.

Whoever wrote this better not start making political ads or we’re all screwed.

Well… you like him because he shows remorse. So you know he isn’t an actual psychopath, and it’s testament to humanity’s great capabilities towards forgiveness.

There is a difference between liking a character and liking a personality.
You can like his character because it’s well written but he is still a horrible person.

I’ve had the same thought!! Like why is Nolan so charismatic when we watched him up close and personal doing, basically, 9/11? Chicago is unforgivable.

I forgive him. Dude was raised by genocidal maniacs. It’s literally ingrained into his psyche. Morals dont just appear when you’re born. You learn them from those around you. Being on earth for roughly 20 years or so isn’t going to change that, especially for a guy who will live to be thousands of years old.

His time on earth made him doubt, but it wasn’t enough to fully break the indoctrination of Viltrum. Deep down he actually liked being Omni man, and he likes saving people.

So yeah I can forgive him. It’d be different if he changes and then goes back to being pro Viltrum.

Oh you should listen to “treat Jews better” by Rucka Rucka Ali. A good voice and an emotional song can make even a German tyrant seem sympathetic.

I wish Debbie knew that he was in pain too. It doesn’t excuse his actions, but I bet she’d feel a lot better knowing it wasn’t all actually a lie

Viltramites? No I think it just takes longer. Whenolan was on that one planet with the race and another dimension in which their time flows different, he was visually aged by the time he left.
