I don’t know how true the $10m is, but I’ve seen the figure in quite a few websites.
For context, the average cost of a Demon Slayer episode is just around $80,000. If you double the runtime, you get $160,000 which is still way way below this probable budget of Invincible.
It feels like all the budget for Invincible went into it’s expensive voice cast list rather than the animation…
Personally I would rather have quality animation with a cheaper but good voice cast list…than celeb voice cast with 90’s animation
Its massive viewership justifies doubling the budget. Keep the awesome voices and greatly improve the animation, more fluidity
I could leave the voices honestly, specifically those of secondary characters or cameos.
Well it also explains why several recognisable names (Clancy Brown, Grey Griffin, Phil LaMarr) are voicing multiple people in the show lol.
I can rarely tell when something is badly animated, I can definitely tell when something is insanely well animated. This season I can definitely see bad is bad because like I said I struggle to see bad animation. I just feel like the shots and characters drag and there a weird gaps between sentences.I never felt like this during season 1 or the atom eve special
Episode 4 was especially rough for me (though, to be fair, I was high whilst watching it, which weirdly makes me more in-tuned to animation quality). The scene with Mark confronting Nolan was really, really janky with the movements.
I just feel like the shots and characters drag and there a weird gaps between sentences.
For the amount they’re spending (reportedly) it also feels very rushed. I’m not quite seeing “$10 million bucks” up on the screen in every episode.
There’s a shot of Debbie walking and it was sooo cheap. They only moved her legs and right arm. Every part of her body was still, as if they were rushing this shot and trying to save money. Seems a step back from S1.
I think I remember noticing what you’re talking about with Debbie

Brief glimpse of her walking down the street. Looks worse in the actual episode since it was such a long walk.
I know it’s just a walking scene but they didn’t even bother animated a subtle head bounce. Reminds me of those NewGrounds animations made by some 14-year-old on his 2006 computer.
It’s been decent enough but I agree it goes up and down, with that budget you’d like to see the entire shoe on the level of the highs
They should really hire a better animation studio. Maybe those guys that did avatar and legend of korra.
It is what it is. I am just glad we get the show after all. Adult comics are so hard to sell. I don’t care much for high profile voice actors though. Might be terrible but maybe with AI, fewer artists can do a better job without the crunch.
10 millions for a 50 minutes animation episodes, well explains a lot
it may seem like a lot, but it’s just not enough for the scope their aiming. Well I hope as season 2 debuts with 3 time more views they get more budget.
Bro, if true, 10m for a 50 minutes animation is far far above the average budget of an anime episode.
And yet these episodes are of way higher animation quality.
Demon Slayer: Mugen Train movie cost only $15m. And that is an animated movie with insane 2D animation
Most high end anime have average episode cost of around $100,000
I don’t think you realise how fast 10m can go in america’s economy. I don’t think it’s comparable to japanimation. the way titmouse functions is very different.
I think in some ways the animation is better than in season 1, and is some ways it’s not.
first, they hired a bunch of color artists, which I follow on instagram; that’s why the image look so cinematic and vibrant in s2. https://www.instagram.com/yoshivuart/
lots of visual developement too. the blackhole on episode 4, the galaxy that allan goes through, The sun shining a deep light when he gets attacked by the vultrimites. all that need pre production artists that design these things.
The acting look very nice to me. But I think the season 1 battles were better.
And It’s the responsability of 2D line animators, and it’s really expensive to fully animate 1 shot.
in thraxa’s fight they use a lot of pseudo animation to save budget.
. and the blood isn’t as well animated. But still a lot of work from character designers goes into how they get hurt. https://www.instagram.com/p/C0CxCk9v8RD/?img_index=2
I fail to see how the writing is worse than S1. We can all agree about the animation but the writing seems to be just as strong as S1. Like you really feel the weight of the characters and everything they’ve experienced in the aftermath of what Omni-Man did. It’s a lot more melancholy.
90’s animation was great, what are you talking about ?
yeah for the 90s. Times have moved on if you didn’t notice
yes time has moved on, and so has animation quality , especially in America . what’s being done now animation wise is nothing compared to what it used to be, or what japanese animation was back then and remains now . so the problem is not time but quality drop
I really don’t think the animation is that bad. Personally I like it bc it reminds me of shows that I watched as a kid on Cartoon Network. Specifically Ben 10 and Generator Rex. Maybe that’s a sign that it’s a little outdated but personally I really like that style. I think people might be overreacting a little bit.
It’s decent, but I’m sure most people would prefer if there was a bit more detail and fluidity
Yeah, having the same animation as children shows from as far back as the 2000s isn’t really a flex
I like it partly bc of nostalgia for shows that had that style. Also it’s not 1:1 invincible’s is definitely better it just reminds me of that style.
It shows how western animation is behind japanese, a bad animation for season 1 is justified because of the risk. But with how big invincible is now I thought the animation would be better, at least on big moments like the invasion and there’s only 8 episodes that takes 2 years between seasons.
This is silly there are a lot of bad animation in anime and a lot of time the good animation isn’t budget related but because the Japanese companies run their animators into the ground.
Lol, there is bad animation in anime, but whenever an anime has bad animation they get animation, they get crucified and called out for it. Western audience give their animation to much leeway.
We also guessed wrongly. Because S1 was a risk, we excused the plain and cheap animation. But we all assumed “Okay, now S1 was a smash success. S2 will surely look much better with a bigger budget. A franchise is officially born”. Turns out that wasn’t the case. S2 often looks cheaper than S1!
Exactly. They have all these big celebs doing voices for minor characters. Like what’s even the point? You could be using that budget to the improve animation instead of hiring big names for every single npc in the show
Yeah I am calling bs on each episode costing 10 million because it really doesn’t show. It doesn’t even look like a 5 million dollar per episode show
I enjoy the animation for what it is and I absolutely love the voice acting in the show.
I do think the animation quality NEEDS to pick up at this point considering the raising popularity of the show but it’s not something that takes away from the show for me.
However I was a huge fan of the comic so that may affect my viewing experience and bias.
I definitely things is takes away from the show. It might not be too noticeable ight now but as we have more and more battle in the future (since there will probably be a war) and more action scenes, it will definitely start to drag the show down.

That’s my issue with it too…
The budget should have gone into the animation, not paying a bunch of celeb voice actors
