You wanted to read the book, you were excited to crack it open, you came into it with good faith and anticipation… but you ended up dnf-ing it. Which book and why?
Mine was The Maid by Nita Prose. It was for my book club and looked like a fun murder mystery. Instead I got instant manic-pixie-dream-neurodivergent-girl vibes, and I noped out before the crime scene was even found.
I gave up on The Wishing Game by Meg Shaffer pretty early. I think I read the first chapter or two. The premise of the assistant librarian hanging out with her student (who was in foster care) and openly discussing her plans to adopt him and talking about all of the things they would do together when she becomes his mom gave me a weird ick.
TONS of people on Goodreads and Tiktok raved about this book but I could not get past how inappropriate this plot point seemed?
