You wanted to read the book, you were excited to crack it open, you came into it with good faith and anticipation… but you ended up dnf-ing it. Which book and why?
Mine was The Maid by Nita Prose. It was for my book club and looked like a fun murder mystery. Instead I got instant manic-pixie-dream-neurodivergent-girl vibes, and I noped out before the crime scene was even found.
Where the Crawdads Sing - 1st page after the prologue. I couldn’t decide if the short, choppy sentences were the issue, or if it was that the people in the book were given dialogue that was supposed to make them sound ignorant AF.
I unfortunately read the whole thing, you missed nothing. It was awful.
Same. But I found myself skipping sentences, paragraphs, sometimes even pages. Awful!!!
Also read the whole thing. Also wish I didn’t bother.
Came here to say this, I reckon I got 10-15 pages in and I hated the dialogue, I was trying to figure out what the hype was.
