You wanted to read the book, you were excited to crack it open, you came into it with good faith and anticipation… but you ended up dnf-ing it. Which book and why?

Mine was The Maid by Nita Prose. It was for my book club and looked like a fun murder mystery. Instead I got instant manic-pixie-dream-neurodivergent-girl vibes, and I noped out before the crime scene was even found.

Ready Player Two. While not the greatest, I enjoyed the first book. In the sequel though there were so many stupid and unnecessarily pop culture references within the first chapter or two that I put it down and never picked it up again.

You didn’t miss much. The whole thing was basically a retread of the first one. It was like he had a list of pop culture references he didn’t get around to using the first time so he crammed them all into the second book.

THANK YOU, this comment does not have enough upvotes. The second one was just so goddamn bad. I feel like he had a really good balance between the references and storyline/plot, and the second is no plot and just tons of references. I made it to chapter 9 and it just only got worse and worse.
