You wanted to read the book, you were excited to crack it open, you came into it with good faith and anticipation… but you ended up dnf-ing it. Which book and why?
Mine was The Maid by Nita Prose. It was for my book club and looked like a fun murder mystery. Instead I got instant manic-pixie-dream-neurodivergent-girl vibes, and I noped out before the crime scene was even found.
I like to read Nordic crime thrillers, such as Jo Nesbø. Can’t read Norwegian or any other Scandi languages, so it’s translations either in English or Dutch. I picked up a Dutch copy from the library but the translation was so literal which made the Dutch stand out as if it were written a century ago. Dropped it off at the library and downloaded an English version instead. “May the devil take you”, stupid Dutch translation.
