Hi! I was just wondering what the general opinions were about Bojack vs T and B? They seem similiar but Bojack did so much better, so wondering what y’all’s thoughts on why were :)

BoJack Horseman is way better than Tuca and Bertie, though I did enjoy that show for what it was.

I do have to say that the way the show and the characters treat Speckle rubbed me the wrong way. He’s one of the few straight male characters in the show who isn’t an asshole or a predator or something, and he’s often treated by both his partner and her best friend like he’s an idiot undeserving of basic respect for no reason. Tuca was especially awful to him pretty much all the time and it’s played for laughs.

I honestly think it’s a better silly to compare. Like yeah, Bojack Horseman is a better show but I feel that’s rather unfair to Tuca & Bertie and I think it presents a different and valuable perspective when it comes to dealing with all of these heavy subjects. I think Tuca and Bertie works more as more of a coping mechanism and comfort from those traumas and the ways that life can be heavy on people while Bojack Horseman is more focused on embracing the dark reality of it all in a way that reflects on that pain we suffer. I also think it does seem to take more of a liberty in its animation and general expression with its artstyle while Bojack Horseman is more meant to just look more like a typical adult animated sitcom. I also think Tuca and Bertie presents very nicely how people use humor and more optimistic thoughts to deal with the reality of their trauma. It also cares to personally focus more in ways women get hurt through sex, body image and their careers. and that’s pretty cool.

So in my opinion, I think Tuca and Bertie deserves love and that it is a great show in its own ways separate from Bojack Horseman. And idk, shows in general will hardly ever compare to Bojack Horseman but that doesn’t mean they’re not amazing in their own ways.
