Even before Eleanor’s redemption actually stuck she was nowhere as bad as BoJack. I mean, she did apparently sexually assault a mail man and attacked a mall Santa. But Eleanor didn’t use someone who looked dup to her as a possible father-figure for sex and then get her to use drugs and abandon her while she overdosed. Or almost murder a girlfriend rather than take drug addiction seriously. She’s closer to Diane’s level than BoJack’s.
Ultimately Eleanor’s redemption mostly stuck pretty early, while BoJack often relapsed back into being a shitty person. >!After Season 2 or so Eleanor managed to act with consistent and genuine selflessness. With huge moments like telling Chidi that Simone was his soul mate, and trying to redeem her parents to get them into the Good Place after she believed she was doomed. BoJack had a few moments of genuine kindness and self-sacrifice, but often scrapped it when he got his real fix, which was fame.!<
In terms of suffering more, Eleanor is probably lower, because ultimately she did have hope for most of the series. When she was alive, she seemed more comfortable blaming her parents for her own misdeeds when she was a bad person. For most of the show she had much better relationships with the supporting cast. >!In the finale, Eleanor got to go to actual heaven for countless eons with people she loved. Plus she tapped Chidi, and you gotta admit that guy was surprisingly jacked.!<
I’m not even sure that BoJack would be any better off after the finale, with the implication that he was going to go back into showbusiness, when only really toxic people would work with him. I wouldn’t at all be surprised if he fell back into drugs and misogyny.
That only applies to Eleanor in the first three episodes or so.
