It was almost certainly closed captioning. Those aren’t quality checked in any way. They’re auto-generated buy a voice recognition program. Subtitles are usually quality control checked. But even those not so much anymore. I used to work in post production for DVDs and streaming and we would do quality control checks on subtitles but it really depended on the client and how much they were willing to spend on having someone actually watch them. I’m guessing here - not so much

If you were watching it with closed captioning as opposed to subtitles, many of those are auto-generated. They’re particularly bad with foreign words or people with accents. It’s cheap but they’re not very good.

I kind of love that this could be about several of the couples on right now.
