Cannery Row by Steinbeck.

It’s a simple book about kindness, supporting others, and finding light in darker times. I read it during my angsty teen years and it really helped to change my perspective of it being me vs. the world to understanding that the world is full of simple kindness, you just have to look.

This is what bugs me about a lot of narrated books like this. Where the fuck is the editor?

I don’t expect a narrator to be perfect and there are lots of words I’ve read but never spoken, so I’m sure I’d get them wrong too…but how does it get through the people whose job it is to edit?

I feel like Ready Player One was probably edited a bit more, because in the second one Wheaton is horrendous and mispronounces a lot more.

Are you talking about the original narrator? Wil Wheaton did the second version and he was much worse, mispronouncing multiple words throughout (as he tends to do in every book he narrates).

I liked the original version a lot better

Ugh, yes. Wil Wheaton is terrible about this. I listened to the Ready Player One sequel (do not recommend) and he mispronounced at least a dozen words throughout the book. He did the same in his rendition of The Martian, but thankfully I found the better version without him.

I’m really shocked that it hasn’t been ripped off to death over the years, but Time and Again was a unique take that still kind of stands on its own.
