I didn’t see Leslie’s shows but Charlemagne let the right wing extremists off the hook big time.
He was fine, but not for interviews, he literally just walked through the talking points and didn’t stop to question them for a second.
Not good.

I think the issue is this. The folks they have hosting are not hard hitting journalists that are going to push back like Stewart did, or even like Noah and Minhaj did (which felt like a lesser extent of Stewart).
Not validating the approach but guest hosts just ain’t gonna cut it.
Unless there is something deeper going on we’re not aware of? Did some right wing apologist get control of the show?
Interesting twist. I also noted that the writer of the New Yorker piece has written puff pieces for Candice Owens (and weirdly didn’t fact check her lies) and the CEO for Warner.
Not sure if Maher had a specific ask for it, but he had a clip on his recent episode about it and basically dragged Minhaj.
So it clearly must have stuck with him. Additionally Maher’s show has shifted right quite a bit.
Your standard is exactly right.
But I don’t think that’s as cut and dry as what Minhaj did though. The FBI story was the only one that didn’t happen directly to him (with the obvious additions that he called out). He was still involved and knew the guy that was impacted and has those FBI people at their mosque. Sure the cop car head slam didn’t happen. But I don’t think his intent was to make up a completely baseless story about something that he only heard about and harm others’ability to get help when they have those situations happen to them.
The FBI and Police won’t do anything more now than they did before to prevent racism, as the George Floyd murder and the subsequent police violence has shown.
Not justifying the decision, nor trying to de-legitimize how those that have had those things happen to them feel (which we know is a lot more common than reported).
I think the situation has a lot more nuance than the New Yorker cared to report on, which to me calls into question their intent.
Ted doesn’t have a Southern accent. There’s at least 40 of them too. Texas has like 10 versions, depending on what city and if in the country. Alabama has several different than Georgia, etc.
There really isn’t a “southern” accent and certainly not used by Ted.
