I would believe that for the typical teenager but Mary is not one. She’s been making big girl choices and engaging in big girl behavior. She wants to be treated like an equal, an adult? Then she needs to act like one

Mary glared the whole time. Just glared
Yes, his mom was/is an addict. Yes, she has made some poor choices.
BUT
They can still love their children. They can still parent their children. It’s really shitty that you seem to think addicts are one size fits all unredeemable.
There is no even semi sane mother that could look at the situation Brandan got himself in to and wonder “what the fuck are we gonna do now?”
Like it or not, Mary got her claws into Brandan by being as manipulative and abusive as any addict.
Would you scoff if the roles were reversed and some 19 year old girl went to another country to be with a boy that never even let her visit her father and made her poop on camera lest she cheat on him?
Son or daughter, I would be absolutely hysterical and terrified for them. I wouldn’t.
Mary had a chance to make a good- or even neutral - impression. But she glared at her from the start. It is not on his mom to kiss her ass just because this is the choice Brandan made.
Mary cannot be so stupid as to think anyone considers her a good catch, much less Brandans mother. My take is she doesn’t care either way, and she knows how to play Brandan like a piano.
Her face is the absolute least of her problems. She’s a cute girl, but her attitude and treatment of others is garbage.
Uh … who are these people saying it’s okay for him to be lazy?
