European and Indo-European Language can be much more easily translated with each other because they share root forms. Japanese and English do not.

Hence translations are adaptations.

The honorific not changing is considered correct in English btw. You should keep Monsieur or Frauline too. We just do that less these days because formality in the West is just about dead. In Japan it isn’t politeness/formality is invested in the language at deep levels.

Yes they should say this. All book recs should be labelled fully and appropraitely. But on reddit the majority demographic thinks everyone is white, male, tech industry, 18-25, and into anime. So the assumption is we’re all into YA and are at that reading level.

There’s also a major astroturfing industry on all book subs. Any chance to push their book will be taken no matter how blatantly wrong

I was on r/fantasy yesterday when I saw a thread asking for “books with soft magic”. The OP had to post that Brandon Sanderson was not what they were looking for. Sanderson is famous as the HARD magic guy. But his fans will recommend his work to everyone. Even ppl who are LGBTQA+ - Sanderson is a tithing Mormon and a lot of LGBTQA+ ppl have had to say please stop recommending him to me for that reason.

Well given that these book bans are not federally legal (1st amendment) couldn’t publishers and authors file class actions against individuals involved in the advisory group for loss of earnings. Since there is no legal basis for the removal. The books were bought by librarians for public libraries. There’s a breach of contract here.

I mean it mightn’t work but if the publishers GAF they could frighten the crap out of these idiots with lawsuits. It’s what any other corporation would do.
