Lool, I know I know, comedy show and all.
I still haven’t finished the show (got two episodes left) but it rub the wrong way how Dani basically bullied Van Damme just because they were playing on different teams during a special occasion.
When characters do something assholely in this show, they usually make up for it and grow as people, but nope. Dani was just being a dick to Van Damme for no reason. And it wasn’t really all bad until he broke his nose intentionally.
Kinda ruined Dani’s character a little for me. When he joined the show, he was supposed to be like the contrast of Roy and Jamie. Super friendly, hyper, motivational.
You know what? It was the dog incident. It must’ve turned his heart cold.
One of the best parts of the show.
I feel the exact same way.
I think they may have been making fun of Ronaldo-Rooney situation. They were teammates at Man Utd, but during 2006 World Cup, Ronaldo pleaded to the ref to send off Rooney in Eng vs Portugal game.
Conversely, I loved it. Absolute CONCACAF moment.
Lots of your matches over there are insane. Normally calm, rational-minded players turn into war-freaks. The latest competitive USA-Mexico game resulted in 4 red cards, 2 for each country.
The November 16, 2021 Canada-Mexico game for WC qualification was quite intense (also the most recent fixture between them). There were 16 fouls for Canada and 21 for Mexico. 5 yellows were produced (both managers were given yellows in the first half for their aggressive nature towards each other and the referees).
Several CONCACAF national teams have a reputation for turning nice, kind players for their clubs into aggressive assholes. In fact, that’s a trend in National Teams in general.
It’s literally all Mexico that causes it. Look up how often they choke opponents. I say this as a Mexican lol
It was just a polar opposite of the real Dani and that was the main point. He became someone else almost.
Canadian here and CONCACAF lifer. While it may be stereotypical about Mexican players… THIS IS HOW THEY ARE!!! Lol could be angels with their club, but the NT calls for something different.
I thought it was absolutely hilarious and a surprising representation in the show. There’s a drama to El Tri that’s difficult to describe to the uninitiated. It’s life or death, them versus the world, all ties are gone when with the team. If they lose the match, they’ll be sure you don’t leave unscathed. It’s unsportsmanlike, not good for the game, but a character to their squad that is unique and representative of them.
If you watch how spicy things can get between Mexico and other CONCACAF nations, like USA and recently Canada, you’d better understand.
I know it mostly sounds negative, but it was really funny, and it’s just the world of soccer.
Now, here’s a link to Canada beating Mexico in a World Cup Qualifying game, which they booked in sub-freezing temperatures in Edmonton: https://youtu.be/NBb-_oas-yg?si=Nto75E_niuuKauLh
CONCACAF shithouses are the best in the world. Van Damme shouldve known better lol.
All my homies hate LLL Tri.
El Tri for life, homey!!
Messed up story: Not long after 9/11 I went to a “friendly” in the US between US and Mexico. I would say 75% was rooting for Mexico. I root for USA first then El Tri. The “Osama” chants started soon as the game started! Wild stuff!
Pretty sure the US men’s team did that to a team from Central/South America - outdoor game in Minnesota in winter. It was cold even by our standards.
The US does this to Mexico every chance it gets.
Not really, no. They mostly try to book matches in the Midwest to avoid the dominant Mexican support they’d get from the crowd in other areas - not that Mexican support isn’t rampant everywhere, just relatively less.
Minnesota was the worst of it, but their most common home bookings against Mexico outside of the Western United States has been in Columbus and Chicago.
Hahaha yes! US Soccer saw Canada book their match in November in Edmonton, so decided to book their match against Honduras in Minnesota in FEBRUARY! Temperatures averaged -17° C before wind chill. Twice as cold as when Canada played Mexico in November.
I like US Soccer trying to one up Canada, but it became an inhumane overreach. Two Honduran players were treated for hypothermia as their federation had limited experience and budget to accommodate their players upon arriving in Minneapolis.
Super random here but if the show has gotten me interested in watching professional soccer but I have no clue what I’m looking at, should I just start watching matches? Will it be possible to understand enough to enjoy the game just by jumping in?
NWSL Championship on Saturday!!! Unfortunately it’s the end of the season but it should be a great match!
The podcast “Go my favorite sports team” has a soccer primer episode that goes over the history and rules. The entire intent of the podcast is to introduce sports to people who don’t know them. I highly recommend it.
Isn’t that run by Markiplier?
Edit: just checked. It is. You must watch it now.
Glad you made the post and not me! I voiced this same opinion in a thread a while back and got downvoted to oblivion. Dani’s a fuckin dick for no reason then tries to be like, “oh haha that was crazy! Anyways we can be friends again!” After all that shit he pulled? Get the fuck out of here Dani
He never got to see a tulip. That broke his soul and turned him into a raging mad man. (/s)
You’ve got it backwards… he saw a whole field of tulips and it was just too much and that’s what broke him
People need to just let this show be what it is, let the characters do what they do.
These aren’t real people, they’re characters. They did what the writers wrote. It’s not any deeper than a comedy bit for a tv show.
You should go watch Kobe in the Olympics
My heart broke for the airline’s cleaning crew when Rani Dojas crumpled up the bag and then dumped the crumbs on the floor of the plane.
Come on, Rani Dojas. Be better. 😂
Rani Dojas!
If it makes you feel better, according to the actor playing Van Damme on the Peanutbutter and Biscuits podcast, they had a bag on the floor when they filmed it.
Futbal is death
I get not liking it, but it’s dramatic but how it is. Hockey players are great friends when on the same team. Once Olympics come around, they’re more than willing to lay their teammate on the professional team out if playing for a different country. Soccer is the same way. These national games are a huge deal for the athletes.
Fùtbol is life. That means if you’re on Dani’s team, you are his best friend, but as soon as you’re his opponent, you’re his mortal enemy
He also went crazy in the first West Ham match, so he does have it in him.
Is being crazy competitive for a few days bullying?!
Mention World Cup 2014 penalty to a Mexican and they will explode on you. Or that might just be because I’m Dutch… 😜
