I always knew this was going to happen, but I feel like it was too soon for me personally. I know we only have 4 episodes for part 1, but I think the reveal would have been better as a mid season cliffhanger.

The reason I think it was too soon, for my taste, is because I feel like the healing process for the Grayson family was just completely stopped in its tracks, making it feel unfinished. Just to clarify, I think what they did to develop Mark and Debbie in that time was amazing and not rushed. I just wish we could see more of them in that middle and post grieving state.

Was that the intention in the comics too? For it to be a punch in the gut way before Mark (and eventually Debbie) were emotionally prepared for their reunion?

No, getting Omni-Man in Episode 4 was essential. If he was a cliffhanger, then Part 1 of Season 2 would primarily be a lot of setups and unanswered questions, without any payoffs. Angstrom Levy, Darkwing II, the Viltrumite weakness to sound, Allen getting beaten. It wouldn’t have been nearly as satisfying as the next episode’s about to be.

The difference with the comics was that a lot of storylines in the show like the returning the flaxans, machinehead, conclusion of the Reanimen, & Sequids took place after Nolan left so the turnaround from the reuniting with Nolan is faster in terms of events.

Whereas the time of Mark with Nolan before he left in the comics was more slice of life Mark focused and either starting some of the storylines that were concluded later or ones cut from the show.
