  • I know what youre saying, but Kirkman himself has said this is a 2nd take on the story for him.

I also said it elsewhere but I think she was toying with him mostly. She hardly took any damage from his attacks. We’ve seen Mark go nuts and stagger his Father backwards in the S1 finale, but he still didnt do any meaningful other than overwhelm him briefly.

And he did have her, but she also had her arms and legs free when he was holding her there, she couldve potentially blocked or countered him, and with the way she goes from being so despondent to psychotic looking; I dont think she was out of fight or something, I think she just decided to fuck with him to see if he would actually strike, which makes sense, since theyre kinda testing him.

Then she goes “Id say you fight well but uh…” which to me, was her calling him soft as shit coz hes sposed to be a Viltrumite, and yet he fell for something like that. If he did strike, I dont know if he wouldve killed her, its more likely he wouldve just done more damage to her, not a killing blow. She has almost no real injuries and Mark looks extremely exhausted

If its not a change you like then thats fair enough, but I think it makes sense if Omniman is way stronger than most Viltrumites, and Mark is still stronger than he was in Season 1, so the gap seems a lot closer

The animation has been quite bad, I get that it’s always been simple, but this last episode in particular really made it stick out to me. There was so little impact in some of the important scenes that it made it hard to feel tension that I think I was supposed to, for instance when the 3 soldiers first arrive and strike down on the planet.

I wanna point something out though; in season 1, there are large stretches where the animation does not look very good. Aside from ep1, ep5, eps 7-8, there are some really bad moments in there. People remember 1, 5, 7-8 and those also happened to easily the 4 best episodes plotwise, regardless of animation. If you go back episode by episode, there ares a ton of mid animation or bad CGI. Plus, if the rumors ive heard are true they had to rebuild their studio from scratch and Covid hit them hard, as well as Hollywood writers strike shenanigans so theres that. All in all what ill say is, Season 1 = Higher highs, lower floor | Season 2 = Lower highs, a bit higher floor as far as animation. I say there will be an ep or 2 where they go all out like S1; E7-E8

Voice acting/dialog: There was a moment where I thought Atom Eve sounded weird after saving those two folks, like oof that couldve used another take, and Omniman sounded too flat when the Viltrumites first show up, but other than that I dont really have any gripes with the voice acting or dialog. I do agree that it can sometimes go on a little too long. Like when Amber/Eve/William are talking and shes like “oh you have a place to stay?” Season 1’s dialog may have been better, but I dont think this season’s has been bad. Just a few moments like that

I feel some of the same things you do about it, but with Season 1, you could watch that whole thing and it ends pretty definitively. I started watching when 6 episodes had already come out and I feel I was unbothered by the animation quality/CGI when it was poorly done because I watched it in bunches. Going back though before this season came out, it was easier to notice some rough moments.

Anyways though, that first arc is really tight and conclusive. I think we’re just going through a period where theyre taking the time to set up future events, and the current main arc for the season isnt as clear because we havent really seen Angstrom do much yet. Id be willing to bet the full experience of Season 2 will be much better than watching weekly for that reason. I really wish it was on next week lmao

  • There’s a difference between hitting someone who knows they’re going to get hit (and therefore braces for impact) and hitting someone who doesn’t know.

Do you mean when hes holding her by her hair? Because she definitely knew she was going to get hit lol

To me she could have gotten out of that situation, her hands were completely free and so were her legs, but she knew he was soft as hell and played him with that despondent look on her face. She legit hadnt taken basically any damage compared to Mark

We’ll have to agree to disagree I suppose

  • I interpret it differently; I dont think he almost beat her. He barely did any damage to her and he was fucked. He has her in a disadvantageous position, but whos to say that punch would have killed her? We legit saw less than a minute before Mark tanking her knee straight up to the face. He probably wouldnt have been able to physically kill her there even if he didnt hesitate

She knows he was holding back to a degree and knows hes soft as shit; they animate in a way that shows her acting all sad and defeated so he drops his guard. I believe she was toying with him

I dont think its that bad. I havent read the comic but it seems to me Nolan is exceptional for a Viltrumite. Mark being so powerful as his son isnt that much of a stretch to me.

Also, I dont think he was anywhere close to beating Thula. I interpreted it as, he put up a fight, but she mostly kicks his ass outside of catching him off guard; he does get her in a position to kill her, but I dont think that means he was physically capable of doing so. I think she was playing up her helplessness because she can tell now hes gonna hold back

  • To be fair, Mark has gotten significantly stronger since he was brutalized by his dad. He doesnt actually damage Thula much at all though.

I personally dont know if Mark would’ve physically able to kill her even when he had her in that disadvantage (which I think she was playing up, she looks like shes acting like a sad puppy when she “knows” shes lost and she is toying with him, knowing he wont do it from how he was holding back before. Thats my interpretation, anyways)

Viltrumites are def strong, but I think the point of this fight is that Nolan is exceptional for a Viltrumite. It would explain why Mark is so strong already

  • He made all their deaths rather quick

Someone else on here said they theorize he did it the way he did so he couldnt feel remorse or guilt.

We see when they show Mark in the Atom Eve Special(?) that hes already seriously conflicted, even before Mark has his powers. He was destroying them quickly and going for the head so as to not see their faces when they died. Same thing when he kills the pilot in EP8. He’s trying to convince himself theyre nothing, and by destroying the most ‘human’ part of the body, hes able to, but then he looks at Marks bloodied face, and he cant help but stop himself from hesitating
