Quite honestly I can’t stand only a few books that I’ve read, recently The Awakening by Nora Roberts.

Holy crap, do I reallllyyyyy want my money back. I was bored. So. Bored. The magic system was subpar, the characters just….ew, everything was so, so boring. The MC is an idiot.

What book is a zero star read for you?

I love Nora Roberts’ books and have read everything she’s ever written, but I’m really disliking her latest (like since 2012) releases. Nothing she’s put out since The Witness has grabbed me.

Her most recent release as of today, Inheritance, is chock-full of super choppy writing that’s more dialogue than description, the romance is shoehorned in at like 3/4 of the way through the book, and she repeats so many elements from previous books — she’s even reusing the same names, like Poole, Cleo, Seth, Laine (the main character’s surname is MacTavish, and Laine Tavish was a character in Remember When!), Trey, Bree/Brie, Carly/Carlie/Carlee.

I find it a little telling that my mom has not purchased any Nora Roberts books for years. She used to have a huge stockpile of them and she always took them on vacations and day trips lol. Something must be going wrong if even devoted fans like that aren’t bothering to get the latest releases

I enjoy her Irish mythology based books and her descriptions of Ireland’s beauty. But I don’t bother with anything else from her since her plots are predictable after a few books.

I read my first and last this year! Identity was being advertised EVERYWHERE as a psychological thriller and holy dooley was it the most boring romance/no-plot drivel I’ve ever read in my life.

The audio version makes them way worse. Why in the world would you write character dialogue that just sums up what happens to everyone that saw it happen and absolutely nothing else. At least let the character say his thoughts/conclusions rather than end with “that was scary”.
