The brief moment of nihilism and coerent speak of PeanutButter to Diane when he talks about life being a successions of useless stuffs until we die
When Secretariat reads his poem.
The View From Halfway Down is my favorite poem. Even outside the show. My dad killed himself when I was 15, so it hits hard every time I read or hear it
Yes! Also has one of my favorite subtle details of this show. You might already know about it, as it is quite well known by now, but still…
The poem changes grammatical person. It starts with the third, then second, then first. 3… 2…1…
Not quite sure why, but this simple thing adds so much to me.
I didn’t know that
I love when bojack, Sarah Lynn, and Todd take a bunch of drugs and try to write passages for the book. Similarly I like when you can’t tell what’s real and what’s Philbert since the set is identical to bojack’s house and he keeps confusing reality with the show
Also unpopular opinion but I like the under the sea episode. First time I watched it I lost it when he figures out the button on the helmet at the end
That is most definitely not an unpopular opinion
Never shutting up about PC convincing Diane that writing the Mall Detective book can also do the same thing she wants to achieve with the book of essays.
“But I never had a brother.” Think the line was something like that. Hope for just a second there, and pure happiness. I literally broke out crying of happiness in that scene.
hollywoob
season 3 ending scene, This scene is so magnificent for its inscrutability. Was this a suicide attempt? Was he finding peace? Ultimately, it’s unclear. But one thing is clear: in this moment, BoJack is willing to let go of everything, even if it’s only for a second. The constant anxiety he finds in trying to control his life is momentarily forgotten. Then, he stops the car. A team of horses wild and free—run across the desert as BoJack looks on, completely stunned. While Nina Simone sings in the background, we see BoJack realize something… and we’re sure that Secretariat’s words were reverberating in his head.
“Don’t go back to the restaurant, Princess Carolyn, just keep driving away…”
The scene of Bojack speeding down the empty freeway having given up on life, but suddenly stopping when he sees a rag of horses gallopping off the the sunset next to him. Chills every time
Penny’s mum walking into the boat. First watch had me absolutely shocked and I just sat there in the darkness of my room in the middle of the night with my jaw on the floor for the entire credits. Had to take a little break between the next episode while binging, I was feeling pretty hopeless and wanted exactly this level of shock in a show so it was perfect for me at the time, got me right into the show knowing that things would get more tragic and crushing while also knowing I was slowly growing to love these characters and their interactions, this was just the moment where it clicked for me as it really shocked me, I wasn’t expecting the writers to go there as bojack already rightfully realised what was happening and rejected her so when I saw the show cut to the exterior of the boat my heart dropped. It’s also amazing that the show doesn’t overuse the swearing as penny using ‘fuck’ in her final words to bojack really cemented how much he fucked up. Made it so much more uncomfortable on his drug binge when he went and saw her, just felt bad for the poor girl.
Sarah Lynn?
I majored in film and I’ve always tried to be careful to distinguish between stuff that I personally like to watch and stuff that I acknowledge is filmically good, so this is like 2 questions for me.
1.) The catastrophic ending of Escape From L.A. is (I think) the worst thing that BoJack thinks about when he thinks about himself; he started out on an upswing trying to reconnect with someone he genuinely did care about and wound up trying to fuck her daughter and then getting caught by her. Even though nothing actually happened I think it’s a lower moment for him than the strangulation thing during which he was out of his mind on painkillers. It is a very good scene that shows him succumbing to his worst impulses but I skip it every time I rewatch the series because I hate seeing it happen
2.) I like BoJack and Diane doing a silly buddy comedy in “BoJack Kills” because it feels like the last time they get to just hang out together and have fun before all of the bad shit BoJack has done lands and removes the fun from their hanging out
3.) My favorite moment comedy-wise has nothing to do with art or filmmaking or anything and is just the Morningtime Hollywoo segment that starts with “I’m a Ryan Seacrest Type!” “And I’m Some Lady!” for how perfectly it lampoons 90s-00s horrible celebrity gossip showsalways and forever secretariat reading the view from halfway down - the fact that they had will arnett read it instead of john krasinski adds so much
Pete repeat and hollyhock. I have never relived the shock and horror realizing what he was talking about in the moment.
YES omg Hollyhock deserves the WORLD. I hope she and Pete stayed in contact after that ik I’d have questions
when hollyhock calls BoJack about Henrietta. her mentioning she’d never had a brother was just about the most heartwarming, hopeful moment in the show for me, there wasn’t a single moment that made me more hopeful for BoJack to get better and improve… then season five happened 😰 i have a soft spot for season four as a whole but that moment will always stick out to me
The music in this scene always punches me in the feelings. It’s set up so good
FOR REAL! i binged the whole season on release and i was a MESS
