A while back, I asked what book/s were still stuck on your current reading list, and I enjoyed the comments; I even got a few books added to my TBR pile for next year (tysm!). This time, what book did you read that was such a page-turner, you didn’t even realize you were on its last chapter?
Mine was Silence of the Lambs. I read it in my early teens, and back then, I was really into suspense/crime genres. Also, I’ve seen the movie beforehand (which I love!), and noticing the difference in storytelling between the two just piqued my interest. Before I knew it, I finished the book and started on Hannibal.
All 3 of the Scythe series. Originally tried to keep them in my car to read during slow moments but got so into them that I just read them back to back.
And the ass saw the angel. Nick Cave is a fantastic writer.
I read the Death of Bunny Munro. It was
psychoticgood. I have this sitting on my shelf and haven’t gotten to it yeah.
This is a list of my favorite mysteries, suspense books, thrillers and a cozy I flew through:
Despite their length James Clavell’s Shogun and Noble House are really good page turners.
I just read Misery and I couldn’t put it down.
Same. Read it two weeks ago in one sitting. I wasn’t planning on it I just wanted to start it in the morning but by 4pm I was like yep, there goes my Sunday.
I started Misery the night before the SATs, thinking I’d read a few chapters. I clearly remember looking at my clock and seeing it was 2 AM, and making the decision that it would be better to be tired for the test then be sitting there totally distracted wondering if Paul would survive… I Had To Know What Happened.
Recently read “Tomorrow, Tomorrow & Tomorrow” couldn’t put it down
Hyperion by Dan Simmons. The first time I read it I finished in the middle of the afternoon and I immediately went out to buy the sequel.
“Timeline” by Micheal Crichton
also
“The Executioner’s song” by Norman Mailer
Lots of chrichton novels are easy to smoke. Fast-paced and sooooo fun.
The Neapolitan novels by Elena Ferrante, the whole series is so engaging and every book will leave you wanting more. The tv adaptation is very good too.
Da Vinci code was one, is that ok to say?😆🦃
Da Vinci Code and Angels & Demons are my guilty pleasures because I love history, art, and architecture. The Lost Symbol was readable because Washington is interesting, but I made it to the “explanation” chapter near the end of Inferno and threw that shit right in the fucking garbage.
i too love hist, art and arch.
im going to do a Visigothic ruins of Spain tour hopefully when I retire.
when I was young [before marriage and kids} I did a monthlong Mayan ruins tour of Yucatan and So. Mexico.
ive never felt so alive as when I walk around ruins.
Wow that sounds amazing!
Why wouldn’t it be? I know I read it quite quickly too, but I can’t recall details of the story now 🫠
😆
I read “The Road” in one afternoon. Couldn’t put it down 🤷♂️
Just recently had this happen with Night Watch by Terry Pratchett. I don’t normally like time travel books but this one was excellent.
A simple plan by Scott Smith. I remember I couldn’t stop and I was talking about the events to people like they where headlines in that day’s newspapers. Lol
Yes! Like watching a car crash happen in slow motion and you can’t look away.
A Thousand Splendid Suns. Only book in high school was mandatory to read that I actually finished at home. Reread it recently and it holds up.
Brothers Karamazov
