Is this sub just a bunch of edgy losers? It’s been watered down to screenshots of “end wokeness” ?? Pathetic

Are there more than 5 examples like this? I can’t think of any other historical figures recast as a different race. I’m trying lol

No, and that’s an example of a character being recast as black that everybody pushed back against. What a perfect example to explain the difference!

“So?” is how I feel about fictional characters being cast as different races in and of itself. If it’s done in a pandery way and/or the piece of media is a turd, that’s different, of course.

But, for example, the Hannibal TV Series is hands down the best part of the Hannibal Lector IP. They made Jack Crawford a black guy after he was white in all previous incarnations. But Laurence Fishburne killed it in that role. His portrayal of Jack was the best yet.

They also made Freddy Lounds a woman, but it was also done well enough and worked for the story, even if Philip Seymour Hoffman is a better actor. It certainly didn’t detract from things at all, though.

Your complaint should go deeper than “this person was this way in this portrayal and this way in another.” Both “this is just pandering in a way that makes the story worse” and “this is a historical drama portraying history inaccurately” are good reasons.

I don’t get what any of that have to do with this suggestion that South Park should make fun of the pandering race swaps by replacing the lead in movies about prominent black people with white guys, or white gay women.

The main thing I took away from the Panderverse= Disney should create new diverse characters. Moana was good, Coco was good, Encanto was good. Do more of that and less making old movies with slight changes and

Yes - its a no brainer lol. Coco, Encanto, & Moana are all great movies and those characters are well liked. Idk why they dont just keep going with that formula, its working efficiently

why pay a decent writer to make a new story when you can get a hack and the producer’s neice to ruin adapt a classic.

There’s a good chance they’re counting on the fact that getting people to drum up controversy and/or hate watch it is factored in too

I don’t think so, if you want to just make something for that purpose there are cheaper and better ways than spending 300 million to make a mediocre movie.

Agreed. The problem with the Little Mermaid remake wasn’t that Ariel was black. It is that it was a bad movie. They remade a movie that didnt need to be remade in order to cash in on people’s nostalgia.

It isn’t as if they remade the movie as-is but made Ariel white that it would have been a blockbuster

So true! They did make a live action Beauty and the Beast featuring white actors and we fucking hated it! We also hated the live action Lion King movie, and all the main characters were blondes in that film!

That said, the live action Cinderella ended up accidentally being quite good.

There’s some fantastical mythology to play with if they did an Inuit/Eskimo movie, plus you get to use husky’s, wolves, foxes and polar bears, which are all marketable animals that people love.

I don’t understand why people can’t see the difference between making Nick Fury black and making Nelson Mendela white. Are people really this stupid?

If a character’s race is a big part of that character’s story, then don’t race swap.

Otherwise, the only shit I’ll give is if the story and character is written and portrayed well.

This would be awesome! They made Green Lantern Black, and they made many other established characters black rather than make new character that are engaging and interesting.
