currently reading through the comic, and its really great, but im confused as to why the immortal and a bunch of other heroes are trying to stop rex’s control over the usa (and maybe the entire world? but thats not been totally clarified yet). Rex’s way of doing things really isnt very different to the way that government works all over the world already, and from the looks of things, he’s doing it better. The government is already an organisation that operates above the people it governs and controls their lives, and people already dont get much of a say in how that governing is done. We have elections, sure, but thats just representative and is just choosing whoever is the most powerful person in a given country, but we dont really have a lot of agency in exactly what that person does after they are elected. and as for killing a lot of heroes, any other government would have done the same thing if people tried to rise up against them. it just seems to me that if the goal of the resistance is just to go back to how it was before, all they are really doing it making things worse. I mean, immortal was literally abe linclon, he should know how this stuff works. All that being said, i havent fully finished the arc just yet, so maybe im wrong about a few things.
That’s the justification in why “He won” since Mark, Nolan, and Eve realise that prohibiting what Robot is doing at this point would make the world worse. There’s more to it and you can kinda tell based on what happened with the Flaxans but I won’t spoil it.
I always interpreted less as “they let Robot get away with it because he was right” and more as “they let Robot get away with it because it was too late for any alternative”. His takeover was so quick and comprehensive that removing him from power after the fact would just leave a massive power vacuum that no one else could really fill at the time. The Viltrumites could hypothetically fill that void by sheer force, but Nolan wasn’t interested in going back to their conquering past, even if it would have been (hypothetically) justified in this case. They didn’t go ahead and put him down out of revenge because it just wasn’t worth it, and would come at a high personal cost that many remaining heroes, like Mark and Eve, just weren’t willing to risk. The series as a whole is full of instances of revenge or purely punitive action just not being worth it or helpful, and Robot’s takeover is the epitome of that. What Robot did was monstrous and just wrong, but once it was done there just wasn’t much to be gained from taking him down, and everything to lose.
Thats essentially what I meant since they knew the world at the moment was peaceful and getting involved would disrupt that peace.
[Huge comic spoilers]>!But specifically for Nolan and especially Mark based on his last talk with Robot in the flesh, he recognised that having someone of Robot’s intellect made the world a better place. Its just that he realised Robot doesn’t have the restraint and compassion for human life which was why the brain solution was chosen to assist Immortal.!<
