So did Mark really win his fight against the Viltrumite woman or did she pretend to lose to have the opportunity to stab him? It’s just kind of weird that he was already able to defeat one of the experienced viltrumite soldiers. Unless it’s stated in the comics that viltrumite women are much weaker than men. Did he “win” in the comics too?

These were low to mid tier Viltrumite Soldiers, say half or less of Nolan. It’s not unreasonable that an enraged Mark can gain the upper hand vs one of them

No in the comics it’s completely different

First off there’s different viltrumites than the show Mark punches one of them and he doesn’t even feel it

Mark is outmatched the entire fight unlike the show where he’s somehow stronger than Thula because his father gave him a pep talk

The point of an adaption is to adapt the story and add to it though. So mark actually landing some hits ain’t a bad thing when you consider the fact that the show has to keep the action going

He gets some hits in too in the comics, it’s just more clearly a battle he’s undermatched in, like the moment he holds Thula up and hesitates finishing her off never would’ve happened in the comics because when if Mark was fighting to kill he wouldn’t have been able to get to that point unless he fought dirty.

            Ah. That’s fair.

But counterpoint: the writers could be using that as a way to empathize the arc of this season. He doesn’t want to be like his dad and he clearly has issues with murder. Which is why so many people think the season will end with marks fight with Levy.

            I think it’s a fair trade off

I’d say it could be a fiar trade of if it wasn’t Thula considering what we see her go onto do makes me question how Mark would’ve done that well. Plus they still had Nolan have the talk with Mark about how he’s fighting adding the idea that Mark needs to fight to kill with him saying he doesn’t which was new.

Judging by the battle damage between the two and how much we know a viltrumite can take…

Yeah, she was pretending. Now this is just head canon but someone who straps a dagger to their hair is probably prone to some trickery.

In canon I’d say she was testing the new blood, and he failed the test so she went for the kill.
