Do Trey Parker and Matt Stone have have their fingers on the pulse of the culture war or what?! I loved this!
Best thing Paramount ever did was acquiring South Park! It’s streaming service is 10 bucks a month I have no problem paying!
Does anyone know if when SP goes exclusively to Paramount, if they’re taking the HBO covid special?
I just liked how they made even more fun about the people constantly being enraged about it, then the actual executives.
I love it when they make fun of these social conservatives that give a fuck about this unimportant bullshit and people run with it like they’re agreeing with them
Just watched this, and cackled my ass off. There’s so many layers to this and subplots but it ties together all so nicely. Freakin hilarious. Trey and Matt are geniuses.
Remember, if you ever agree with Eric Cartman, you’re probably wrong.
I haven’t seen the special yet but why people have it so much against Cartman? Is the sub being raided? Or he does some pretty evil/stupid/lame things in the special that I will understand when I see it?
Matt and Trey seem to have trouble being consistent with this themselves ironically.
When they address topics like this, they give arguments from both sides. Sometimes, they choose the best argument from one side. Sometimes, they choose the worst. But either way, at least people get to hear both.
I don’t think so.
The message is that diversity is good, but forced inclusion and pandering is both bad and lazy.
South Park had the balls to have gay characters on in the first season, not to pander but as a core part of the episode. And it’s also mentioned that there’s a difference between making Miles Morales, a separate character with his own personality and backstory, and racebending an existing character.
The whole point of Cartman is to give racists and sexists a voice so they feel represented. This way South Park can appeal to BOTH racists/sexists AND people who aesthetically oppose them. This tactic goes back to All In the Family from the 70’s. Conservatives LOVED him and liberals hated him. Both watched the show because both thought the show was on their side.
Funny thing is, the thing people hate about wokeness is what they love about Cartman. He’s made to pander to them and they love being represented by him…
That’s literally what the person you rsponded to was getting at…
Do you remember those seasons when Cartman was full woke?
Tbqh a lot of people were saying that and didn’t mean it. The fact that he is saying it was just so ironic.
Cartman is often right…hippies.
We all know Scrotie McBoogerballs was about “oppression felt by the lower class” and not about just arbitrarily making fun of Sarah Jessica Parker!
remember if u agree with disney ur idiot
MORE MANDALORIAN!
This is the way.
Bro doesn’t want more good star wars
Good thing that it’s Kathleen Kenedy 🤷♂️
Eric Cartman once said that independent films are about gay cowboys eating pudding. 7 years later - Brokeback Mountain.
It depends on the context and the situation. Sometimes he is right and sometimes Kyle is wrong. Nuance is important!
Yep. A lot of racist, sexist jackasses are seeing the special as “vilifying” them, even though T&M think they’re full of shit.
Do you mean vilify or vindicate?
Probably vindicate. I get my words mixed up sometimes.
Even a broken clock is right 2 times a day
“I get my opinions from what other people say on reddit” the comment
You’re so right, South Park actually wants all these lame movies made… you nailed it!!!
You went in circles so hard you ended up being right in the end!!!
Oh no, you’re not hijacking this sub
The whole point was him and Kathleen Kennedy were both wrong. How did you moss that?
That was the whole special lmao
Let he who has not fed their enemy parent chili cast the first stone…
I know a guy who is exactly like Cartman. He checks every racist, misogynistic narcissistic box. He’s also absolutely hilarious and somehow always gets off the hook. He’s cartoonishly evil and dumb and people just can’t be bothered arguing with him.
I agree with Stan and Kyle though, the only ones who didn’t accept that Cartman was a black woman.
I don’t know this one was a little out there lol
This was actually so wholesome.
10 bux a month? South park has always been free
Holy shit I can’t wait to have this exact line regurgitated back over and over for the next five years.
Cook with shit and eventually the smell gets stained into the walls
“Put a chick in the Linguini!”
If it makes this girl power shit go away, I’ll be okay with it.
Not sure what the overused Borat jokes accomplished. Maybe a normalization of quirky foreigners, so that’s nice.
Kathleen’s not going to change her ways because South Park makes fun of her.
It also makes me laugh because Kathleen Kennedy doesn’t run Disney lol like people miss the joke they’re making about the complainers blaming Kennedy for everything
Yeah these filthy rich execs love the smell of their farts way too much.
Wow.
Very nice.
I fuckin loved this special.
Make it more lame!!!
Loved how it made fun of both sides. How the people who are always botching about things being “Woke” need are usually just being assholes, but that Hollywood just switching out known and loved characters with different races just so they can meet some sort of quota of diversity is just lazy as fuck pandering.
Not always. I wanna see Matt and Trey grow some balls and make fun of their pal Elon Musk. Dude is just asking for the real South Park treatment.
I would say not every instant is just pandering. Wouldn’t keeping everything white makes still just be pandering to the insecure pieces of shit they are?
Pandering happens regardless, that’s what people aren’t getting.
Most of these characters are only what they are due to (wait for it) pandering. Pandering to the white males who could buy the shit. Wouldn’t see a black captain America when segregation was still a thing. It isn’t based on some sort of creative intent. It was made to pander to white dudes from the very beginning.
If changing up some characters helps other folks feel represented in a way that white dudes have had forever, then I’m cool with it. Even if the studio intent is “pandering” it doesn’t change the outcome of representation which is important.
“Feel represented” - I hate this shit as a Hispanic person lol
Are you stupid? You realize South Park was one of the first shows to show gay characters and say accept them for being gay so what it doesn’t matter. And that it wasn’t a pandering issue it was be a decent human issue.
And that the Tolkien Black kid, wasn’t stereotypical dumb and poor and from a broken household but instead smart and rich and from a loving two parent household.
You’re really upset that South Park is pointing how the constant pandering IS ruining television and movies. Pandering for the sake of Pandering IS lazy, tactless, and not though provoking in any way. You’re just happy it’s cartman doing all the complaining.
South Park is unusually good at this sort of thing.
I think people are treating this like too much of a binary.
They do literally call the thing Kennedy uses “the Pander Stone” and they clearly don’t care for the Sequel Trilogy.
But on the other hand, Eric Cartman is the one voicing these criticisms. And he admits to writing thousands of pieces of hate mail every day.
Our last 10 movies failed? The chick wasn’t gay enough! For the next movie, put even more chicks in it and make them gayer!
Ha. The day they make a character full blown gay and it’s part of the story will be the day North Korea finally gets everyone
Didn’t they do a fully gay main character recently? I think the film bombed to be honest. I saw trailers for it. Something about kids on a spaceship.
They already did. Go watch the willow series. The lead girl is a lesbian.
They already made it. No one watched it though.
It means put a chick in it and make her lame and gay!
