Nice there’s the kate bush one too
I didn’t love it and i don’t hate it i was getting frustrated about halfway thru and just wanted to get to the end (linton could not die fast enough for me that kid was annoying) i read the annotated version to help with some of the language issues i knew i was going to have (18th century writing) then some i didn’t (Joseph) it was ok and apparently i had a copy the whole time but I’ll probably read it again later
Sometimes i forget especially if its a book I’ve read and is packed away i forget if its a library book or mine sometimes I’ll be a hardcover if I’ve only got the soft cover or if i like the cover art better on a certain edition (I’ve bought two books used because i didn’t like the ver. That they were currently printing)
My mom likes to buy every copy of this one daily devotional type book for everyone she knows she gives them away I’ve been debating this with where the heart is but mostly cause i have a accident extra copy
I recently ordered two different editions from the library of wuthering heights one was a annotated ver. (With a translation on what the hell Joseph is saying and i swear if it doesn’t have a translation in normal editions for him its not worth it)
I want a different edition of alice cause one i got at the library explained different words that i thought was interesting versus my copy doesn’t
Im sure theres more plus collectors the thing i don’t get is multiple copies of the same edition and they just sit on your shelf
Yeah but the survey was asking if their parents read to them when they were younger otherwise yeah my mom didn’t read to me much then she read to me some when i was younger but not much
I think on average i read around 20 books a year now but i had a slump for the last 5 years of barely reading one or two im working on it tho
The doll people and ranma 1/2 vol 4 the forst was and is my fave book growing up and ranma was what made me love manga so much
Yeah it was good but i don’t like the scene (i had the redo ver. From the 90s that added in stuff) that he has trashcan man more abused like seriously we get his life sucks leave him alone it was unnecessary and added nothing to it
I’m working on the witching hour and fuck is there a lot to slog thru plus at least 2 why would you put that in there
Oh great im working on the witching hour and literally the description is rape on both sides like girl please find better descriptions!!
Alright sit down and let me tell you about a story
It involves a girl with serious generational trauma a mom who won’t shut the fuck up and a day and night and weekend job that by all accounts is deadly
That’s right its whichwood by tahereh mafi and yes i had to check 3 times to make sure i spelled the name right i read this book sometime about a year ago cause there was 3 boxes of books on the chopping block at the library as they hadn’t been checked out and some of them were my favorites so i had to take home those and about 3 dozen more that looked amazing (the lightening queen was one of them i loved that book)
the librarian had told me that they pulled ones that hadn’t been checked out in 7 years most of these weren’t even 7 years old because the former librarian who was helping out decided to over rule her request and purge the library of a bunch of great books. ☕️ lots of tea there and yes i hated the former librarian she’s a complete bitch
Now on to whichwood i loved this book i loved laylees character i loved the whole adventure i somewhat liked the additional characters honestly the whole thing was pretty great and trust me i check this was listed ordered and set as a middle schoolers book right?
And then came the very through and descriptive explanation of how to clean and box up and nail shut coffins of the dead! And let me assure you it will turn your stomach stephen king would be proud and all of this done by a girl who’s around 14 and already starting to go gray (silver but with that stress who can blame her) she’s the last of her family that does this and her dead mother is not going to let her forget it she talks so much not to mention the beautiful clothes she wears while doing this like could her family not get her some good work clothes maybe a carhart? They get ruined when she does this plus the whole town hates her cause they’re afraid of her even tho THEY NEED HER?!? But you know no good deed >! Plus there’s the whole putting her on trial thing i wanna say they wanted to burn her at the stake for that but i can’t remember anymore!<
mind you this and all its gory descriptions were all aimed at a middle school audience if i read this in middle school I’d have nightmares for weeks i was having trouble when i was 25 reading it so you know its gory the actual story and characters were fine i wanted more laylee but the content should have kicked it up a higher demographic for the graphic bits i tokd the librarian when i brought it back
Another gory gross book i read similar was three dark crowns which i believe i read right after so i was doing sucky for non violent books then i did want to read the 2nd one for 3 dark crowns tho
Normal book? Runemarks I’ve read it more then 10 times
Cool this one is on my list I’ll have to find it soon
I don’t think this is weird at all? (Is it supposed to be weird to enjoy things over and over when you like them? That’s kinda the whole point of book collections) and i know its not unhealthy cause anything to help your grief is perfectly healthy if i had to guess just reading in general i could be way off you could be making yourself feel bad because of the context? Like jkr isn’t getting your money if you reread your copies of books its perfectly fine and normal especially for book lovers to read books over and over again
I especially love manga and can name over 20 series that i have read over 50 times i have a few regular books I’ve read about the same amount but my favorites are the doll people and runemarks runemarks would probably be the one i read most for comfort also where the heart is i love reading that one and the night circus plus the calvin and hobbes books i have worn out a few with how many times I’ve reread those
Watership down
I borrowed it from a local coffee shop read the first few pages and it sat in my car for around 3 years then on my shelf for about 4then packed for about a year or 2 and i just finished it this month it was amazing and I’ve recommended it to like 6 people since
Right i was gonna say not cause from around 4 up i don’t remember my mom reading but i know i had her reading stellaluna over and over till her brain went to mush so she definitely did at some point
