They likely haven’t done it before. My guess is that they did this (once and done) for the first time the kitchen was used after marriage.
They’ve mentioned him taking English lessons and trying to learn earlier (maybe this season). It’s very common for speaking to be the hardest part of learning a new language. On top of that, most people likely feel more comfortable, especially in conflict, speaking in their native language. That’s also why Danielle switches back to English when she’s angry.

I watch with a Hindi-speaker, and they say that the subtitles are usually really off as well. Though I agree he softens it a lot and is selective in what he translates.
I really feel like this was a cleansing ceremony they did for the first time using the kitchen after marriage.
But still, I don’t think it’s very normal for many Hindus 😂
