And that’s totally fair. I think the citing of the Bob’s burgers jokes just gives reason for why I myself may have interpreted it to be mean spirited too when it likely wasn’t intended that way.

By the time this joke came out the Family Guy writers had also made several jokes about Bob’s burgers. It was this point in time the writers felt more mean spirited than like they were genuinely joking, bitter they weren’t winning any awards like Bob’s Burgers and Bojack even though they’ve been on for years.
That’s how it came across for me at the time because the Bob’s burgers ones were much harsher but idk I could be pulling all of that out of my ass.
I do like the design though and the acknowledgement of the show.
Diane doesn’t live in LA anymore. She’s there specifically for a wedding. She’s married, she has a life, she’s basically a different person by the time she sees Bojack at the wedding and it’s assumed they didn’t speak from the last time before he ODed in the pool, up until the wedding.
He did something extremely cruel and selfish. He promised her he would be okay if she left LA. He promised her and told her he wasn’t going to hold her hostage and encouraged her going to Chicago. Then he relapsed, hard and when he called her while fucked up he threw it in her face and made it her fault if he died because she wasn’t there for him.
I wouldn’t forgive him either
I love her. I think she was also ironically the best match for Mr. Peanut butter if he hadn’t ruined it every step of the way.
Their humor was similar (she could even do his referential humor on par with his skill level), she was more comfortable with the Hollywoo lifestyle than any of his exes since shes an influencer, and she likes to do a lot of the same things like party or enjoys grand gestures.
But he cheated on her with Diane twice, kept talking about his exes, and they probably started dating way too soon after his divorce. If they had met like a year later I think they would’ve been each others endgame.
Or just let it run off the road at max speed and hope it flips as that seems to be the intention he originally had but something made him look and notice the horses.
