What is this “Mary has never done anything wrong, ever” narrative you’re attempting here? Brandan’s mom has never tried to say she was the perfect parent but when they were trying to rebuild their relationship, Mary did not let him see his mother or sister. Mary has been isolating and controlling to him, textbook abuser behavior.
