It’d be funny if Mark read Nolan’s travel books thinking that’s what he meant. Just saying “Well, I know the sites I’d love to see when vacationing in Italy but, how does this help me fight Viltrumite’s?” Although, I think in the comics, Art kept copies of the books cause he was a big fan of them.
“Obviously the book is really good but, this is the second book where a protagonist has forced their kids to fight wild creatures on the alien planet and has said ‘Should they not survive, I will shed no tears for they are weak!’ Again, the books are really good but does he realise Lord of the flies isn’t a parenting manual?!”
The chase is so good, one thing I’ve always liked about it is how Mark was exhausted and admitted he’d never went that fast before, but Lucan didn’t even break a sweat really.
I think in the comics, Donald always knew he was a robot and was mostly fine with it.
If you’ve seen the first season/ first few episodes, I think you’d be okay starting from #12, a lot of the issues that follow it have already been covered in this season but, the comic does expand/ differ from the show in a lot of ways.

Nolan’s books! I’ve loved the little breadcrumb the show has been dropping for future events, and this might be my favourite so far. Mark recruiting all of the books “characters” are some of my favourite parts in Invincible.
I really liked how the show adapted the splash/ montage page from Nolan and Mark’s fight. I wondered how they’d translate it in the show but they did a great job.
I love that the show adapted Nolan’s anger and rage for the grief he feels for the Thraxan’s it’s a small detail but, I really like how it helps establish Nolan’s arc of realising the Viltrumite’s were wrong.
No offence Cecil but, I could’ve told you this clone plan wasn’t going to work. Read almost any comic ever Cecil! It never ends well!

To the animators who did the Nolan and Thraxan kissing scene, it was really well done and I’m very sorry you had to animate that. At the very least, maybe you discovered something about yourself in the process.
I really like how the show adapted the confrontation between Mark and Nolan, I would’ve liked if Mark kind of broke down like in the comics but I do like that the show’s established Mark (rightfully) feels mostly anger towards Nolan now.
The confrontation between Mark and Nolan is so good, as a big (read obsessive) fan of the comics, I was worried how they’d adapt it but I love how the show recreated it with Mark being apprehensive then angry and ultimately it just boils over to confusion and sadness.
Loved the Angstrom post credit, I wonder if they’ll tease the Invincible War by having him recruit some in a future post credit, but that was still great. I really like how they’re subtly setting up the Viltrumite’s weaknesses.
Kind of sad they got rid of the plot with the guard being secretly in love with the Atlantean queen if only because I found it funny to picture their version of The Crown where some senior Atlanis royal official says “Being Prince is not your job, she is the job. You are her rock, her confidant, whatever she needs you to be, you will be it.”
Yes! Love the hint Cecil’s working on the signal he used to distract Mark in the comics.
I might be reading into it too much but given how this episode’s focused on the inner ear weakness for Viltrumite’s, I really wonder if they’re going to have Mark meet Nolan on the bug planet where they have to fight the Viltrumite’s towards the end of the season and have Mark use the inner ear weakness.
It’s kind of impressive that in a show with Nolan, Eve’s dad is such an asshole he seems nearly as bad.
This episode ends around the same place as issue 29 so if you’re looking for somewhere to start, I’d start from there. I will say however, the comic does develop and expand on some stuff the show hasn’t so if you’re interested you could go back and read from the beginning, it is a bit slow at the start but it really picks up.
