I think you’re bang on here. They don’t like the conflict, and I don’t think he really wanted to hurt Jen. I think he loved her, and probably knew deep down it wasn’t ever going to work out, but didn’t want to see her go.

Everybody sucks here.
Brandan is a child.
Mary is a child.
Brandan’s mom is in recovery, which in itself is great, but does not speak to them having a foundation of trust to build from.
I agree with his mom that they’re terrible for each other, but he isn’t going to accept it coming from her, at this point. They should not have been in a relationship, shouldn’t be getting married, and for damn sure shouldn’t be having a kid, but all of those things seem to be in motion. The way she’s going about it isn’t helping, but watching your kid ruin their future for no good reason has to be hard to watch.
Hated. We’d be way, way too boring to be good TV. We’re communicative. We are not vindictive. We have next to no drama or disagreement.
Absolutely not.
There are so, so many people fairly close to me. I live in an area of 1.5 million people. Even with similar culture, less constraint on time together, etc, it still took me 36 years to find “my person”. I can’t imagine the timezone difference, lack of shared culture, limited time together, or anything else would make me any happier. More power to the people that manage it, but it seems like a nightmare to me.
