I feel you but not sure it’s that. If it’s drama they’re after, then why not word for word subtitle the Americans? They only do it for the foreigners with the poor English skills.
It makes the Americans look skilled at the other language while making the foreigners look stupid.
I’ve always gotten a kick out of who they choose to subtitle and who they choose not to subtitle when speaking English.
Usually the heavier the accent, the more likely to get subtitles, and the American rarely/never gets them. Then you start to notice how many English from England people get subtitled lol
It’s not a documentary it’s drama trash tv so they bend and mold all kinds of things in the editing to make drama .
I get that would be super annoying as a Spanish speaker but I wouldn’t be expecting them to change that
