Gwen, Yara, whomever else there is needs to talk about his drinking and he needs help. Alcoholism does not get better. The fact he’s drinking when he wakes up??
Most people would go for water if they’re hungover. An alcoholic would go for the alcohol. Especially when their body starts to become dependent on it physically. He needs help.
I wish they wouldn’t tip toe around this. You see Yara bring it up briefly here & there, but it’s always dropped.

This stood out to me too. Who drinks juice that’s been sitting out all night? Nor very believable.
Maybe he thought it was juice…
That’s another reason he didn’t want to work close to home.

Haven’t they said he can’t drink at all when he’s working? I’m betting that’s why they think he doesn’t have a problem. He’s just making up for lost time when he’s home and drinking nonstop.

I found it funny that he said “I thought it was juice”, clearly he did not, there wasn’t a cup of juice to be found in the room. It was his excuse after getting caught
I think it should be a wake up call for many dating couples in their 20-30s because many spend much of their free time at clubs, bars, parties in other words , drinking. If along with drinking at outside venues once or twice a week if your partner is drinking at home daily, binge drinking frequently to excess or drinking in the morning at the very least they’re a problem drinker. This is true even if they hold down a good job as it’s a misconception and frequent excuse of alcoholics and problem drinker that if they had a problem they couldn’t hold their job.
If this is your situation, before you get married or live together, have a talk about this when they’re sober. Access screening questions from AA or other sources and discuss them. Those without alcohol addiction can pretty easily give up or moderate the party lifestyle but those with issues, can’t for any length of time.
Like Yara, it’s very easy to convince yourself “ they’ll grow up” with marriage or a child but instead you end up worrying about DUIs, have an absent partner several nights a week because they’re getting drunk at the bar and you’ll end up in daily fights which your kids will suffer with.

That “juice” scene made me squeamish. He knew what it was… hair of the dog. Yuck. What a turn off.
As someone on their own sober journey, it’s hard to say where he’s at and if he has a problem. We all know editing can be very powerful.
In the end, I hope he gets whatever support he wants and needs. Whether that is treatment, peer support, AUD medication, a sober home, etc., I hope he gets it.
Production stepping in to curb a 33 y/o’s hard partying ways is a bit over the top at this point.

For she was terrified that she was gonna find him dead or their son was going to find him dead
It’s so hard to say “enough” when you need to-so bravo to her!! She probably helped save his life by leaving. It for sure helped him get to his rock bottom faster. It’s ok if he lived in his truck for 6 months-he’s sober now, probably partially due to that as well.
It’s very hard. Before getting deported because of it, my husband fell into alcoholism. He hadn’t seen his parents in 13 years and turned to the bottle. We’d try to get him to leave & he wouldn’t.
I’m so glad he’s chosen to become sober! Hopefully he’ll be able to be a part of his child’s life. Your daughter did what was necessary, and she’s going to have to pay close attention-because when an alcoholic slips of course they hide it, but it seems like he’s on a better path now.

Alcoholism and a strip club addiction. It kind of says something about Gwen’s parenting that he was able to sneak out several times at the age of 16 and get into the strip club unnoticed. Yet she continues to enable him and gang up on Yara. He does not want to grow up and be a responsible father and husband. He refuses to take the desk job because it’s “not fun” compared to going in a submarine 3 months at a time. He’s gaslighting Yara constantly, making her feel insecure about her looks, and just overall not taking her feelings into consideration.
I feel like Gwen actually does call Jovi out on his bs. Maybe I missed something, but I feel like she calls out Jovi when necessary & she calls out Yara when necessary.
As far as her parenting: my mom was basically a helicopter mom, but I still figured ways to sneak out as a kid. I’d go to my best friend’s house to sleep over. Her mom didn’t pay attention very well.
I don’t think it’s necessarily a parenting issue. Teens rebel.
Every time I see Jovi/Yara I can’t help but think of how many non alcoholic men in this world would love to take Yara out to dinner. How many men would never step foot in a strip club if she was their wife. She deserves better. It can’t ALL be for tv.
No it can’t be, and you’re right. She’s sweet, she’s gorgeous, she’s committed to making a home, she’s soft spoken.
She always brings it up… he’s clearly a functioning alcoholic man child. He clearly chose a job not close to home so he can continue partying without Yara.
Does anyone know if he gets to leave the rig on weekends with his work buddies? I’m guessing they do sometimes.
I’ve been with an offshore rig worker over 15 yrs now. To the best of my knowledge, there really isn’t a weekend on a rig offshore, or a drill ship. There aren’t even days off.
They fly out or take a crew boat and stay their complete rotation. It is dry and is supposed to be. It is a dangerous job where one mistake can cost life.
When they end their hitch and go back to the beach, there will be decompressing: bars and strip clubs are part of that culture.
That doesn’t mean Jovi isn’t sneaking it, but it would get him fired.
In my experience, drinking in the mornings pushes that cross over the chemical line into addiction happen fairly fast
I’ve been posting other comments that wonder about being able to leave or drink so I’m so excited to finally get an insider to answer that for me. Thanks!! I finally know a little better that it’d be incredibly hard to drink.
So if he couldn’t leave, he’d have to pack a crap ton of alcohol. I’d say he could get sloppy if he did that, but he strikes me as the type that drunk is more normal than being not drunk. Nobody can tell with them as easily.
I think it’s unlikely he drinks while working. A lot of guys who do this work do have issues with drugs and/or alcohol, but can keep it at bay because their schedule provides dry time.
Still, that’s gonna get harder if jovis drinking reg in the morning when he’s home.
You know, he probably just works from home the whole entire time and has a side chick in a different state.
Reminds me of one of the most chilling things I’ve ever seen:
I lived with two guys I knew from high school. Everyone in our circle drank way too much, but at the time, I thought it was cool. We were being young and partying.
One day, I came downstairs to leave for work around 6 a.m. and found my roommate leaning against the open freezer, head back, chugging vodka like we were in Leaving Las Vegas.
He’s dead now from complications related to a liver infection.
Anyway, yeah, Jovi needs some help.

My step-dad chugs alcohol like that. None of us know how he’s still alive and in relatively good health for a 75 year old 20+ year alcoholic.
I know what you mean about it being creepy. Seeing someone straight chug alcohol in an obviously abusive way is gross.
