I agree, mostly because I just despise the influencer culture on social media. I think that it takes a certain level of self-involvement/narcissism to broadcast your entire life to the internet.

I hated how she would take the comments on her lives as orders she couldn’t refuse. It was a funny episode but she just got manipulated by everyone so they could leave the house.

And that stupid part of her wasn’t mentioned again but it made me wonder if all her decisions on the show were made because someone in the comments told her so. Imagine if she got in a relationship with Joey Pogo because of an anonymous comment.

Paige Sinclair, I just hate how she acts so much to the point that I can’t watch any of the episodes with her in it💀.

Mikaela and Stuart as well because they’re just legitimately dumb.

Hollyhock also just annoys me and I don’t really have a reason why but she just does.

Honestly I disagree. Bojack proved that he wasn’t a safe person for AA meetings when he outed sharrona on his second interview with biscuit b. So I think that their coldness was justified because they can’t trust him to do the same to any of them.

Specially considering they are addicts themselves so they most likely would’ve done the same thing as not calling 911 is unfortunately common thing on benders. Also one of the reasons BoJack was there is so he wouldn’t do stuff like that again, like they didn’t need to act all buddy buddy but at least treat him with dignity

Hollyhock’s dads, it was their collective decision to let her go off to LA for her mission, understanding the associated risks of doing so.

Yes what happened while she was with Bojack was horrible and absolutely should not have happened, but they did not deserve to act like such dicks to Bojack when he came crawling back to apologize and deliver the critical piece of information Hollyhock was after. Just seems hypocritical to put all the blame on the guy who was taking care of their daughter for free for weeks

ugh yes. they suck so much- and hollyhock isn’t great either. bojack did a lot of shitty things but he really didn’t do anything wrong there. hhs dads let their 17 y/o go halfway across the country on her own, where she guilted bj into letting her stay with him, and basically forced bj to let beatrice come live with them even though he was very clear that she wasn’t a good person and someone he didn’t want in either of their lives- plus, hh read his book, which we know had stories about how awful she was (“i read your book bojack … i read the parts about me. the things i said to you. you must think i’m a real monster”). he had no idea what had been going on, and as soon as he learned, he did everything he could to make things right, despite it not being his fault. i don’t feel bad for him most of the time, but when it comes to that storyline i absolutely do

Honestly the family is just kinda slapstick but I really disliked how Yolanda treated Todd. She was so dismissive of him as a person, she liked an idea of him that wasn’t him and everything he said when breaking up with her was accurate.

        Now Maude, I adored. 👍

I didn’t like how Yolanda acted with Todd, but the point the show was making was they weren’t automatically compatible romantically just because they were both aces, and that was good. I also liked the episode for Yolanda coming out to her family and then learning what asexual was and coming to accept her.

I definitely appreciate the Yolanda arc for what it does for Ace representation 👍 I also think the way she treats Todd shows that aside from being asexual she is not experienced in relationships in general. She isn’t shown having friendships or connecting with others well. Her whole family has a very self involved dynamic and shows where her problem behaviors arose from.

It’s a good storyline and the coming out story is a really smart twist on the coming out story trope. If the characters were more likeable and less self centered the storyline probably would have suffered.

I’m really just saying I don’t like the way they treated each other or Todd. I love me a good wacky Todd episode but this one is harder because I feel bad for Todd putting up with their crap all night and I was proud of him for setting a boundary and breaking up with her.

The clown dentist thing was insufferable. And I didn’t care about his chair drone.

But worse he gets a pass and no one ever nails him for how he created a sexual predator CEO and even darker turning the Cabracadabra concept upside down for profit.

Still his character is important as a commentary on white male privilege where he’s likable and success is ridiculously easy for him while he’s basically clueless about the impact of his privilege. The funniest line is when he meets another celebrity couch surfer and we realize there’s more of him out there.

If Todd were a commentary on white male privilege he would be a really shitty one, that’s not how privilege works. Todd is just a goofy character, it’s a comedy show, it seems to me like people are way too intent on taking ridiculous stuff like Henry Fondle as like a deep indictment of his character.

You might want to rewatch with different eyes. This is very clearly there and not a “shitty” commentary at all but actually a very adroit skillful commentary on it. It’s not “over analysis” just because you don’t get it.

Yeah it’s not overanalysis, it’s bad analysis. There was one joke in one episode about Todd getting away with things because he’s white, it’s not some kind of thesis statement for his character. None of the rest of what he does makes sense as a commentary on white privilege. If his character were meant to be all about white privilege, which it isn’t, it would be saying that white people can get away with anything without ever experiencing any consequences, which would make it bad, ham-fisted commentary.

I know that people say you can’t analyze comedy, and that’s not true. However, you have to do so while acknowledging that it’s comedy. When Todd opens a dangerous unlicensed theme park that risks a bunch of people’s lives, it’s not the same as if a character in a non comedic show did the same thing, because the fact that it’s a joke changes the way it’s presented and the way it should be interpreted.

Lmao just because you initially completely missed it whoosh! and haven’t wrapped your mind around it yet doesn’t make it “bad analysis.” It just means you missed it and from your own words it sounds like you have an overly narrow definition of what white privilege is and what it looks like beyond your narrow understanding of it. It’s all through out with his character not just the one time they explicitly mentioned it. Sorry you missed it but you might want to actually rewatch it with this in mind rather than deflecting.

Todd is definitely my least favorite of the big 5. Some of his plot lines were just so pointless and felt like they were supposed to be comic relief at times but rarely made me laugh. That being said, Todd’s “fuck” hit me the hardest of any character’s.
