What’s up with the messed up translations in this show I’m dyinnnn lol. Has anyone else noticed this? 49:46 of episode two of season 10 when Gino and Jasmine hug at the airport she says my “gringo bonito” in Spanish which translates to my cute white boy, but the caption that they put up says “my gringo monkey” the hell 😭😭 I mean it’s defo not a big deal but kinda funny nonetheless
Yeah but “gringo” doesn’t mean “white boy”
Then what does it mean?
Foreigner-- someone who is not Hispanic or Latino, but it’s most often used toward white people. Also could be used against Hispanic or Latino people if they don’t speak Spanish.
Can confirm. I honestly don’t get why Latinos get genuinely pissy at me for not being fluent in Spanish.
Typically would be used to refer to a North American person.
Exactly…. So in the context she used it DID mean white boy. It was more of a sarcastic question lol
The subtitles have shown it as ‘white boy’ when Jasmine said it, and then ‘American’ when Anali said it this week.
I feel like they subtly change the translations based on the scene and whatever vibe they’re trying to present.
“How are you?” doesn’t mean, “Hi. Let’s pass each other in the hall and never speak again” but somehow it does almost every time I hear / use it.
"Hey motherfucker’ means two very different things depending on if I’m talking to my sister or my boss.
“Your bitch is bleeding everywhere” means one thing if you’re dog sitting an unspayed female in heat and something else entirely if you’re in the middle of a gang fight.
Context matters. And tone. And my desire to remain employed.
