What’s up with the messed up translations in this show I’m dyinnnn lol. Has anyone else noticed this? 49:46 of episode two of season 10 when Gino and Jasmine hug at the airport she says my “gringo bonito” in Spanish which translates to my cute white boy, but the caption that they put up says “my gringo monkey” the hell 😭😭 I mean it’s defo not a big deal but kinda funny nonetheless

I will never get over Ronald using the word “poes” in afrikaans (which means cunt) and the producers just leaving it there saying he called Tiffany an idiot. When Syngin used it they captioned the same thing.

Also there is no afrikaans word for idiot that sounds even remotely like “poes” so I have no idea who told them that translation

The convention when making subtitles is generally to take obscenities down a notch in the target language. The translator is probably well aware of what poes means, but isn’t comfortable (or possibly even allowed) to write ‘cunt’ for all of America to see.

That sort of makes sense, but at the same time is sort of strange to me. So any language that isn’t English can have any obscenities as long as the subtitles make it seem not as bad? I feel like it takes so much context out and would be so much better if they just censored it completely. I’d be pretty pissed if my partner called me the worst word in his language on international television and the production watered it down to not offend it’s audience.
