Could be the book you loved the most, the series you daydreamed about, book that inspired you, fascinated you, your comfort read…anything.

And why.

I LOVED the Anne McCaffrey Pern books. I would walk around daydreaming about new adventures set in the books’ world. The Dragonsong books really connected my love of music with my love of fantasy (and animals).

    The Giver.

I famously HATED reading by principle, hated it with every core of my being. Thought it was stupid and that books were stupid. We had a reading assignment in grade 6 and different groups got different books. I was told “The Giver” was too difficult for my reading level, and all that did was piss me off. Wanting to restore my pride I demanded to be in the group that read The Giver.

We were only supposed to read two chapters a day. The moment I opened it I was hooked, page after page I could not put it down. And as I went through Jones’ progression from naivety to wisdom, it was as if something in my 10 year old mind cracked open a little bit and spilled out. Truth unravelling itself.

I got in trouble for reading the book in a couple days.

Recently read this one a few months back. Literally could not put it down. Read it while eating dinner and while I was supposed to be working. Finished it in a few days. Amazing book but also left me unsatisfied

Gathering Blue was definitely mine. Admittedly I was gifted it much too young and loads probably flew right over my head but the experience of reading it in itself was something!

Anytime I see questions about books I come looking for the giver- if you are not aware, it is the first in a series of 4! The others do not immediately read like a series but by the final book, Lois Lowry wraps them up together beautifully! I have read the Giver to each of my children.

My daughter just read this for her y8 English class. She loved it but she’s dyslexic and the teacher didn’t finish reading it in class. We tried listening to it but the narrator ruined it for her so she never went back to it 😢

Haha I got in trouble for reading books too fast too! I always thought that was stupid… who cares if it screws up all the “predict what will happen” question, never discourage a kid from reading :P

Anyway, I loved the Giver too ;) and I love your reason
