  • There are two possibilities here.

    1. Nolan just wrote what he knew and wasn’t specifically intending to document Viltrumite weaknesses.

    2. Nolan was specifically documenting Viltrumite weaknesses and selling them as sci-fi.

If he was a hardened Viltrumite at the time of writing, option 1 makes him look dumb and option 2 begs the question of why he would do it.

If he was already starting to soften at the time of writing, option 1 still seems dumb, but there’s now an explanation for it. Option 2 looks like he’s intentionally making a backup plan, which is the most interesting interpretation to me.

    1. I’m guessing they’re chalking it up to sounding basically the same and they’ll mention it in passing later.

    2. Pacing was a bit off in places, I’ll admit. Eve and Donald subplots could have been moved to other episodes. Loved the cuts between Debbie and Mark/Nolan, though. Disagree about the LL or Sequid plots. Those should be in the next half of the season.

    3. Some missed interactions would have been great, but most I’m fine with them excluding. It’s an adaptation after all. You can’t cover everything and there might be specific storytelling choices behind a few exclusions.

  • The show is so much better up to issue 13. The decision to end episode 1 with the slaughter and then keep the secret from the characters until the end of season 1 was absolutely genius. The pacing is also way better than the comics. The inclusion of more Damien Darkblood and the development of more side characters helps in that regard. The benefit of hindsight, I guess.

Comic Amber is forgettable. It’s super obvious that they were going to pivot to Eve. It was a relief when they finally got it over with. The teasing was annoying. Show Amber is more interesting as a character, but she’s also not the most likable. “I always knew you were a superhero.” Bitch, what? Then why keep playing with Mark? Just dump him if he’s too absent or tell him you know and accept his lifestyle. Not a fan of that whole deal.
