I really do think the ending scene between Bojack and Dianne gave their relationship a sense of finality. I think it was made clear throughout the show that Bojack and Dianne were very codependent and toxic together. This is evident by the fact that whenever they would have close contact with each other, they would both spiral into a drunken and depressed state. Bojack brought the worst out in Dianne. Dianne stuck around because firstly she desired to feel needed/wanted by someone. It was also evident that Dianne felt she couldn’t help herself, so she tried to “fix” Bojack by being there for him when he didn’t deserve it. Secondly, Dianne’s self destructive streak most certainly found solace in Bojack’s nihilistic attitude. Bojack and Dianne never speaking again points towards Dianne healing once and for all. By severing her relationship with Bojack she is essentially cutting ties with her baggage and destructive tendencies. Bojack and Dianne ending their friendship for good is poetic in a sense. At least for me anyway
it will absolutely get better. the writing in season one is a bit clunky and the humor doesn’t quite land that well with the exception of the navy seal episode. the writers didn’t find their stride until season 2 and beyond. however, season 1 does provide important backstories and character building. so it is important to watch it for the later season storylines to pay off. it only gets better from this point, i promise lol.
kinda weird for people to be drawing parallels between a cartoon character and a real and recently deceased person. read the room perhaps?
one of my coworkers is very prolife and LOVES bojack horseman. i would like to have seen her reaction to this episode and diane getting an abortion. im surprised she spoke so well of the show considering her conservative views lol
Not gonna lie, I was disappointed with the finale because it seemed anticlimactic at first. Especially because of how poignant the penultimate episode was. I also just really disliked Bojack and wanted him to face some kind of consequence for his abhorrent actions, even if the consequence had to be as extreme as death. However, Bojack having to live and grapple with his past actions is the hardest consequence for him. Death would be too easy of a solution for such a deeply nuanced show. Honestly, the only hope for Bojack to truly better himself is to keep on living. If he died from the overdose he would have gotten what he wanted: an easy way out. So yes, the less dramatic ending for Bojack made the most narrative sense for the show.
start from the beginning but be sure to explain that season 1 is by far the weakest and it gets much better as it progresses. that’s what my boyfriend told me when i first started watching it for the first time and it motivated me to stick it out past season 1
you don’t have enough media analysis skills to decipher why dianne 's character design changed so there’s no point in explaining it imaooo
