  • Rand for obvious reasons, I don’t even want to casually converse with someone who would like her stuff. But some others that would make me at least consider swiping, depending on what else is on the bookshelf:

1984 - I think people that see me posting a lot here won’t be surprised and if you like the book I don’t really mind but if you give it a 5 star review it tells me that usually it’s the only book on politics you’ve read usually.

Meditations or literally any book about stoicism - Depends on if you also like other philosophy or if this is like your only philosophy. There’s nothing wrong with stoicism but the people who are obsessed with it in this day and age almost always have terrible opinions and are, euphemistically, “traditionalists” in the worst way.

Young Adult books when you’re over 30 - OK so one or two of these are fine but if all you read is YA at this age then we won’t really have anything in common.

Biographies, self-help, and other non-philosophical/political non-fiction - I cannot imagine anything more boring than making this your main reading genre.

  • I think the problem is that people that will recc young adult novels see them as just as good as adult novels, whereas the people who actively don’t read YA novels think the exact opposite. So this means it’s only a problem for one side of the equation, but luckily Goodreads is pretty good about tagging novels YA so that’s the easiest way to find that out IMO.
