  • What is this culture war bullshit.

Show Amber in season 1 was annoying sure, I think they missed the mark with her character and made her more confrontational and angry than they should have. So far in season 2, however, Amber is much more understanding of Mark’s responsibilities as a superhero and is very kind. I think the writers understand the criticisms of season 1 Amber and have set out to make her more understanding towards Mark which I appreciate. Amber is fine. She’s certainly an improvement over that cardboard girlfriend character she was in the comics.

The fish queen… really? You’re mad that the fish doesn’t want to bang Mark anymore? Who fucking cares. We got a really cool action scene that wasn’t in the comics and a great heroic moment of Mark saving the fish people from annihilation despite Cecil’s orders not to. This also serves to further set up the schism between Mark and Cecil that eventually leads to their conflict later on. We also got a hint about the Viltrumites’ ear weakness earlier on than in the comic… It’s better storytelling.

As for Kate, it’s not much different from the comic? Rex is a cheating asshole and Kate is a cheating asshole, she points out how hypocritical of him it is to be mad about her cheating on him which is completely true. Kate wasn’t exactly a super nice person in the comic either, she was pretty damn rude to Eve on several occassions, and that’s not even including the obvious moment of her fucking Rex.

It sounds like you’re just pissed off that the women in this show have a bit more complexity to them than in the comics and that certain characters such as Amber and Kate aren’t doormats. Idk what else to tell you except grow up

  • The show is very faithful to the comic but it adds a lot of stuff and changes the order of events around a bit. There are also some changes made to a few characters, mostly minor, but still different.

In my opinion the show is more immediately captivating than the comic and will pull you in more easily. The first arc of the comic can be a little hard to get through as it’s slow-going. So I think the show is better to start with for newcomers as it’s easier to get into.

With that being said, once the comic picks up, it never stops and you won’t be able to put it down. Since you’re familiar with Kirkman’s writing already, you know how good he is at keeping you turning the pages and leaving you begging for more. So if you’re a bit put off by the beginning, I’d recommend just watching the first season of the show then coming back once you’re hooked.

I feel like and old man complaining about “kids these days” but goddamn since when did everyone’s attention spans just fucking plummet to the point where every episode of a TV show that doesn’t have earth shattering reveals or climactic battles is considered filler? Have people forgotten that you have to have lay ground work and build up to climaxes in order for the big moments to be impactful? I swear if these episodes are considered filler by people I don’t know how you’re supposed to enjoy the majority of shows/books/movies/comics.

All of the best stories have downtime where less big stuff happens and things are more slow, gradually building up to the big payoff moments. I think having constant stimulation from the internet has rotted people’s brains and I hope writers and showrunners don’t listen to people who spew this shit

Shapesmith is a Martian not a sequid. Also it’s reasonable to assume Kate is 18 or 19 given that she was on the Teen Team and was an appropriate partner for Rex. So what Immortal is doing wouldn’t qualify as statutory rape. Still weird I guess but there’s weirder shit in this show trust me
