Most of seasons 6 - 9 tbh. That’s what the bread and butter was. The Satire and parody was still there but these stories were far more of the norm

Hot take - whilst this is a phenomenal scene and some of the best acting and narrative payoff in the show making it worth it. But the subtext and satire almost ruins the entire shows wider point until they fix it by the end of the season and mostly season 6 part 1. Mostly focusing on Diane’s reaction, hypocrisy and how bojack actually changed for the better in the end as opposed to the infatuation with tying wider satire to sacrifice overall character consistency and thematic consistency.
Nothing to do with “arghh Diane I hate coz misogyny” and I do always feel like I have to make that disclaimer even when I shouldn’t.
No he genuinely did care about his friend and defended her. But in the beginning it was about his ego and getting attention
Can you explain why those are objectively bad qualities as compared to just stuff ppl generally find to be distasteful but not morally wrong
Diane is justified in not being disliked by people and it’s understandable past misogyny as an excuse
Sarah lynn was as responsible for her life as bojack
Cuddlywhiskers makes sense
I’ve always wanted to see a post special with Ruthie coming back and seeing Hollywood past the stories of her mom. Just something to tie everything together. Even though I know that’s against the whole point of the ending
I think he’s just got adhd to an extent that makes him come across less unaware than he actually is. But then again I say adhd but like others have pointed out. It does seem to be the golden labs personality trait just exaggerated in the show
Survive. And be better.
Cuddlywiskers esque aphorism aside. That genuinely is the move. It’s not as easy as a quick quote but that mantra and continuing to strive towards it by bettering your own life and realising you can’t save them from drowning but you can save yourself from drowning with them. No matter how much it hurts as you have attachments to them. Is really the only way to win.
Bojack couldn’t do that and let the glory of fame and several distractions force him to embrace his worse traits. But he was better than them in a lot of ways.
Also therapy. Like yeah cliche here I know but unironically if you have no good ppl in your life to talk to in order to progress. Professional help when you can find it is best.
HOORAY! A perfect cosplay and W reference to boot
Imo. The best substitutes isn’t his regard. Are moral Orel and succession. They both have the writing, emotional depth and awareness of greater societal influences (religious conservatism in Orel and billionaire entrepreneurs in succession as compared to Hollywood) with deeply layered characters and situations that manage to draw viewers in with the tragicomedy esque tone.
Yeah she and cartman were the best honestly. Getting their cadences down perfectly.
I always love that the greatest joke of South Park is that they’re taking the piss of a concept but genuinely do it better than in real life
I sometimes feel like especially nowadays. The “y’know I learned something today” speeches from Kyle need to be present to handhold ppl to the message. I used to not be so cynical and was glad they evolved that gag over time however honestly and especially considering how reactionary both the current public along with deadass it ironically being the theme of the special going over ppls heads is becoming the go to for ppl right now. It seems my cynicism wasn’t misplaced.
Times like this make me glad Matt and trey aren’t so cynical too but wonder how and why when seeing the reactions to their work lmao
Pretty cool. Feel like I’m in the season 3 of his arc in my life rn
