  • I don’t think that’s entirely correct - beekeepers need to open the hive anyway to check to make sure that it’s not being affected by parasites and to count the bees for conservation purposes. If bees have too much honey/resources, the hive will split and both new colonies will have a much lower chance of survival, so removing 2/3 of the honey regularly is considered good for the hive.
