Terry Pratchett’s books mostly his Discworld series but really his whole library is amazing. It’s amazing how simple a thing as not having chapters makes it harder to put his books down, but even his books that do use chapters are often hard to put down because of how fun they are.

  • His prose being so good is what makes it hard for me to read other fantasy authors.

They just don’t feel as “fantasy” as Rothfuss. I’ve tried multiple times to get into Brandon Sanderson, but it just reads so dry and artlessly in comparison, like it’s not fantasy at all.

Pratchett also had excellent prose that he used expertly mixed in with more standard writing to really emphasize the fantastic moments of his books that really were about the mix of magic in mundane life. Unfortunately, he’s long passed. GNU Terry Pratchett.

Neil Gaiman also has excellent fantasy prose.

Scott Lynch is pretty good too…

I’ve only read her science fiction but I know Anne Lecklie’s also written fantasy so I want to read that to see how it is.

If anyone knows any other fantasy author’s with excellent prose please let me know.

  • When I see something like this I take heart in this speech/manifesto from Andor

“There will be times when the struggle seems impossible. I know this already. Alone, unsure, dwarfed by the scale of the enemy. Remember this. Freedom is a pure idea. It occurs spontaneously and without instruction. Random acts of insurrection are occurring constantly throughout the galaxy. There are whole armies, battalions that have no idea that they’ve already enlisted in the cause. Remember that the frontier of the Rebellion is everywhere. And even the smallest act of insurrection pushes our lines forward. And then remember this. The Imperial need for control is so desperate because it is so unnatural. Tyranny requires constant effort. It breaks, it leaks. Authority is brittle. Oppression is the mask of fear. Remember that. And know this, the day will come when all these skirmishes and battles, these moments of defiance will have flooded the banks of the Empire’s authority and then there will be one too many. One single thing will break the siege. Remember this. Try.”

I emphasized the part most relavent in regards to the Christian zealots.

  • Ancillary Justice by Anne Leckie, it’s amazing how something so seemingly simple but kind of revolutionary having a culture with a single gender, and that uses exclusively feminine pronouns is.

The use of typeface, spacing, and page format in the synesthesia sections of Alfred Bester’s Tiger, Tiger, or in the USA The Stars my Destinstion. Also, just doing The Count of Monte Cristo but science fiction and shorter was cool, as was The Burning Man.

Slaughterhouse Five and the back and forth chronology of it. The way it’s written really does the best it can at expressing what it’s like for someone who’s experiences all their time at once (or the experience of someone with terrible ptsd(or both).

  • Are you pro Hamas? Because they are the ones who are the elected government and leadership of Palestine. Do you agree with attacking music festivals, murdering civilians, and taking hostages? Do you support the murder of homosexuals and religious extremism? Honor killing? Are you willing to support a faction backed by Iran? Do you not think they would commit genocide if the roles were reversed?

You need to fully consider a position, especially one as complicated as the Israel Palestinian conflict before you commit to it and go around boycotting people.

The best options I see is a cease fire, a removal of Hamas from leadership of Palestine, and a removal of the aggressive leadership of Israel. But here’s the thing, that’s not going to happen, so best I can really hope for is a ceasefire.
